P0329: knock-sensor intermittency includes mounting as well as wiring
Ross-Tech's P0329 guidance includes incorrect knock-sensor mounting torque, making the mechanical installation relevant alongside the G61 circuit.

P0329 identifies intermittent feedback from knock sensor 1, called G61 in Ross-Tech's VAG reference. The source lists irregular engine speed, drivability problems and reduced power among possible symptoms. Those effects do not distinguish a damaged sensor from a connection or installation problem.
Mounting is part of the diagnostic evidence
Unlike an explanation limited to electrical continuity, Ross-Tech includes incorrect sensor tightening torque among the possible causes. The mounting condition therefore deserves attention, especially if work has disturbed the sensor. This does not supply permission to tighten it arbitrarily: the source provides no universal torque value, and the engine's repair information is needed.
Electrical alternatives remain important. The page lists a short to ground, a short to positive, an open circuit, a faulty sensor and a controller problem. These alternatives should not be collapsed into a claim that intermittent automatically means a loose plug.
What a useful result looks like
As an editorial diagnostic implication, the report should distinguish whether evidence points to signal transmission, the sensor itself or its installation. Replacing G61 without checking the mounting requirement can leave one of the source's explicit causes unresolved. This is independent VAG diagnostic guidance, not a manufacturer-specific torque chart or a prediction that a particular component is most likely to fail.
