P0392: A low bank 2 exhaust-cam signal is assessed when edges stop
P0392 identifies a no-edge low-input condition on the bank 2 exhaust-cam channel while the crankshaft reference remains valid.

Documented application
2025 GM 25OBDG07A Part 2, specific documented monitor only. Vehicle, engine and calibration applicability require confirmation; application-matrix filename join is unresolved.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0392 is the low-circuit code for the bank 2 exhaust camshaft sensor. The GM strategy evaluates a loss of new cam edges with the signal low as it transitions into the no-signal state. It does not directly describe an incorrect mechanical cam angle.
Crank rotation makes the missing edges significant
The row qualifies the observation with crankshaft revolutions. Ignition must be on, a crank signal containing its gap pattern must be detected, and backward rotation must not be detected. Those conditions give the controller a valid basis for expecting new exhaust-cam edges.
A low logic level when the engine is stationary is therefore incomplete evidence. The key combination is ongoing qualified rotation and a cam channel that no longer supplies its expected transitions.
Separate circuit loss from pattern error
A pattern-performance fault evaluates the order or spacing of edges that do exist. P0392 here concerns their absence together with a low level. Preserve the crank reference and exhaust-cam signal simultaneously to retain that distinction.
The source assigns one-trip reporting and references other enable and inhibit conditions. It supplies no terminal location or resistance test and does not prove that the sensor itself failed. The correct engine circuit procedure must distinguish the signal path, sensor supply and controller input. Use the code to choose that investigation, rather than jumping from “low” to a timing-component replacement.
Source and applicability
This explanation covers the cited GM monitor, not every vehicle carrying this code. The application-matrix filename does not resolve cleanly to this file, so no model or engine fitment is assigned. GM diagnostic table, PDF page 593.
