P047F: exhaust-flap binding can remain after an ECU update
Ross-Tech's P047F entry includes J883 electrical faults and, on specific CR-TDI vehicles, a mechanically seized exhaust flap requiring assessment.

Documented application
Ross-Tech independent VAG diagnostic guidance; match complete fault description and controller. Vehicle-specific notes do not establish universal applicability.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P047F identifies an exhaust-pressure control valve stuck open in Ross-Tech's VAG guidance. Its possibilities include fuses, wiring or connectors and flap-control module J883. A fault reported after software work therefore should not automatically be treated as a software-only problem.
A specific diesel note concerns corrosion
For Golf/Jetta 1K applications with CBEA or CJAA 2.0-litre common-rail diesel engines, Ross-Tech notes that the fault may appear with or shortly after an ECU flash. It still advises checking whether the flap mechanism is seized or binding, describing water-related rust at its pivots and revised replacement modules.
This is a bounded application note. It does not prove that a flash caused the mechanical condition or that every exhaust-pressure valve shares the same failure.
Replacement may require a setting operation
The source discusses output tests and applicable basic setting or adaptation, and specifically advises basic setting after replacement on supported North American CR-TDI systems. As diagnostic reasoning, installing a module and completing its required setting are separate steps. Use the actual engine procedure to verify both. Ross-Tech's independent page does not provide universal fuse locations or authorize replacing J883 without assessing its supply and mechanism.
