P055F: Excessive oil pressure is separate from an implausible sensor signal
Interpret Ford P055F engine-protection monitoring and distinguish it from oil-pressure sensor rationality or control-solenoid circuit faults.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the documented monitor variants. No individual model, engine or calibration fitment inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
Ford describes P055F as engine oil pressure out of range on the high side. The cited strategy is an engine-protection check, separate from the sensor-rationality and control-solenoid circuit tests presented on the same page.
Establish credible pressure information
The source lists oil pressure, oil temperature and coolant temperature sensing as prerequisites. Its neighboring P0521 family includes stuck-high, stuck-low, stuck-in-range and estimated-pressure comparisons. Those categories matter because a sensor that reports an implausible high value is a different diagnosis from confirmed excessive pressure.
Ford gives P055F a five-second monitoring duration. It does not publish a universal pressure number on the cited page. A guessed psi limit would therefore be inappropriate, particularly because the actual operating temperature and engine configuration affect the applicable specification.
Keep the control circuit as a separate question
The same source lists distinct oil-pressure control-solenoid open, low and high circuit codes. P055F alone does not prove that one of those electrical faults exists or identify the solenoid as the failed part.
Preserve the pressure evidence, temperature state and companion sensor or control codes, then use the engine-specific procedure to distinguish actual pressure from sensing error. Because the monitor concerns engine protection, verification should be performed through the proper service procedure rather than prolonged operation to see whether the warning clears. The summary provides no automatic pump, sensor or regulator replacement decision.
Source and applicability
This explanation covers the cited Ford monitor variants, not every vehicle displaying this code. Match the engine, sensor architecture and calibration before applying numerical limits.
