The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P056E identifies a supercharger function problem associated with cold temperature in Mazda's SKYACTIV-X engine. The PCM sees substantial clutch-control current but insufficient reported supercharger speed while its estimated unit temperature is low.
Cold conditions change the diagnosis
Mazda describes moisture freezing around the rotors as one possible cause. Repeated short trips with incomplete warm-up can allow moisture to accumulate. The page also lists speed-sensor, connector and wiring faults, so a cold-weather code is not proof of ice in every vehicle.
P056E and P2578 are stored together in the described response. Boost and EGR are disabled and engine output is restricted. The repeatability explanation provides a useful distinction: sufficient warm-up can melt ice and restore operation; if the unit remains abnormal after warm-up, the broader P2578 diagnosis remains relevant.
Confirm speed information and actual operation
The factory flow considers clutch-circuit codes, evaluates SUPER_CHARGER_RPM for connection sensitivity and uses controlled pressure and speed observations to separate supercharger, clutch and sensor faults. Its electrical branch includes the F12 15 A fuse and speed-sensor supply, signal and ground.
Do not force a suspected frozen unit or improvise active-test commands. A qualified technician should establish whether warm-up changes the condition and whether the speed signal is credible. The source's inconsistent Celsius/Fahrenheit conversion is not repeated here; the supported finding is a cold-related malfunction, not a universal ambient-temperature threshold.
