Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P05B0 concerns the minimum or maximum stop assessment of active grille shutter B. Ford evaluates the final position against the commanded endstop, so the fault is about a learned travel result rather than merely whether the actuator receives power. A shutter that moves can still finish outside the accepted position window.
The command and learning state matter
The monitor requires a command to fully open or fully close the shutter and more than five self-learning events. The documented failure-registration duration is 30 seconds. Watching a partial movement without an endstop command does not reproduce this test.
The calibration limits differ by direction: the example allows a larger discrepancy during fully closed self-calibration than during fully open self-calibration. Normal movement toward an endstop has its own stated comparison. Consequently, a position error must be interpreted with the operating phase, not against one assumed universal travel tolerance.
Evidence that separates travel from circuitry
Record which endstop was requested, the final reported position and whether self-learning had matured. Repeating a position comparison before the learning prerequisite has been met cannot establish the same diagnostic outcome.
Ford lists open-coil and internal-temperature monitoring separately. P05B0 alone therefore does not identify an open winding or overheated controller. The source does not locate an obstruction or prescribe replacing a shutter assembly. The appropriate next investigation follows the confirmed travel discrepancy and the vehicle’s actuator layout, with care around an assembly capable of commanded movement.
