The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P05C4 identifies a low signal from the water-pressure sensor in Mazda's SKYACTIV-X cooling system. The published threshold is less than 0.18 V for five continuous seconds.
Electrical low is not a coolant-pressure measurement
The code indicates an input outside its expected electrical range. It does not by itself establish low coolant quantity, a failed water pump or a particular physical pressure. Mazda lists grounded supply or signal wiring, an open supply, a signal-to-ground cross-connection, connector faults and a malfunctioning sensor.
The fail-safe opens the coolant switching valve fully and turns on the electric thermostat heater. EGR inhibition is conditional on a misfire assessment that may threaten the catalyst; it should not be described as an unconditional response to every P05C4 event.
How the circuit checks differ
Mazda inspects both sensor and PCM connections before separating the grounded-supply/signal checks from the open-supply and cross-circuit checks. These branches establish whether the sensor is receiving and transmitting valid electrical information before its component inspection.
Repair confirmation uses an engine-running self-test and a pending-code check. A displayed low voltage is not an instruction to open a hot cooling system or substitute a pressure gauge test for circuit diagnosis. Any coolant-system access requires the correct cooled, depressurized service conditions and the vehicle-specific procedure. Retain the original electrical reading and related cooling faults for comparison after repair.
