P061A: Torque supervision can fail without a check-engine light

Understand Ford P061A torque-performance subtypes and why a shortened code hides the distinction between loss of function and calculation clipping.

Documented application

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P061A belongs to Ford’s internal torque-supervision monitoring. The summary distinguishes a loss-of-function representation, P061A_00, from P061A_48, which concerns torque clipping associated with a supervision-software torque-calculation error. A bare P061A display does not reveal which of those observations was recorded.

An internal comparison is not a parts diagnosis

These entries are within the electronic-throttle monitoring system. The listed execution is continuous, and the general monitoring duration is less than one second except for specifically named exceptions elsewhere in the table. P061A is not one of those longer-duration exceptions.

Ford marks the torque-performance entries as non-MIL; the loss-of-function entry also lists a wrench indication. Absence of a check-engine light therefore does not establish that the supervision check passed, nor does the wording establish a broken throttle motor.

Preserve what the controller disagreed about

Retain the full subtype and the circumstances surrounding any torque limitation. Loss of a supervisory function and disagreement that leads to torque clipping are different evidence paths. Merging them into one generic replacement recommendation discards information that the manufacturer deliberately distinguishes.

The summary does not disclose a universal torque-error limit, identify a defective processor, or prescribe reprogramming. Vehicle-specific diagnosis must establish the relevant software, inputs and supervisory state before deciding whether a hardware, signal or calibration investigation is appropriate. The monitor’s fast registration time is not proof that the original fault remains continuously present.
