Documented application
2025 GM 25OBDG07A Part2 diagnostic monitor documentation; the application-matrix filename mismatch is unresolved, so no model or engine applicability is inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0653 monitors the transmission controller’s VREF2 sensor supply in the cited table. The generic reference-voltage B label corresponds here to a specifically named sensor-supply circuit, not a universal engine-sensor pin.
A voltage limit with hysteresis
The failure threshold is above 5,500 millivolts, or 5.5 volts. The table supplies 50 millivolts of hysteresis and requires at least 40 milliseconds of fault confirmation. Hysteresis separates the boundary used to recognize a condition from its recovery behavior, preventing every small boundary crossing from being interpreted as a new independent event.
Battery voltage must be above 8.75 and below 18 volts. The engine must not be cranking and key status must not be Stop. P0882 and P0883 disable the check, so a power-supply fault can remove the opportunity to evaluate VREF2 normally.
Diagnostic use
A high reference rail can affect the context of downstream sensor readings, but this page does not identify which individual load caused the rail condition. Establish the actual reference network through the correct wiring information.
Verification should show the enabled VREF2 high-voltage monitor completing with a stable acceptable supply. A sensor reading that looks reasonable in isolation is not a substitute for confirming the shared reference-voltage result.
Documentation and applicability
These details describe the monitor in GM’s 2025 25OBDG07A Part2 file. Its application-matrix filename does not match the download index, so model and engine applicability remain unresolved. Use the vehicle’s correct service information before applying these calibration details.
