The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P06A1 concerns the control circuit for the variable A/C compressor valve. The Mazda SKYACTIV-G page describes a control voltage that stays low relative to the PCM command for five continuous seconds.

Follow the valve circuit

The valve is built into the compressor, but the fault can originate outside it. Mazda lists connector trouble, the F12 15 A fuse, an open or grounded power feed, a grounded or open control circuit, and PCM-related faults. The inclusion of an open control circuit is significant: a low-input DTC is not proof of a simple short to ground.

The diagnostic sequence checks the valve connector and fuse, then separates the power-supply checks from the control-wire checks. That separation prevents a missing supply from being interpreted as a failed internal valve. No specific fail-safe is listed on this page; that does not establish that cooling will remain normal.

When the compressor becomes a candidate

Only after external connections and circuits are assessed does Mazda use a repeatability check to judge the compressor-valve branch. The verification requests maximum-cold operation and checks cold air at the vents before looking for the same pending DTC.

The valve's location inside the compressor explains why a confirmed internal fault can lead to compressor work. It does not justify replacing the assembly on the code alone. Refrigerant handling and any compressor replacement require the appropriate workshop equipment and vehicle-specific procedure.
