P0700: The transmission request points to a separate diagnostic record
Understand why GM P0700 reports a transmission-controller emissions fault request and cannot identify the failed transmission component by itself.

Documented application
2025 GM 04A documented monitor only. Vehicle, engine and controller calibration applicability must be established separately; no model fitment is inferred from the file.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0700 is a transmission control-system MIL-request code. The cited GM engine-controller monitor watches a message from the transmission controller indicating that an emissions-related diagnostic fault is set and that the module is requesting warning-lamp illumination. P0700 therefore records a reported condition from another controller.
The underlying transmission finding matters
This monitor does not compare clutch slip, hydraulic pressure or solenoid current. It recognizes the transmission module's fault-and-request message. The meaningful next information is the transmission controller's own diagnostic record, including its actual code and operating context.
A replacement decision based on P0700 alone would skip that evidence. Different underlying transmission findings can produce the same request, and the engine-controller entry does not identify which one occurred.
Distinguish the message check from the mechanical test
The row evaluates the message continuously after more than three seconds from power-up. That delay is a communication-monitor condition; it is not a statement that a transmission component needs to fail mechanically for three seconds.
The local reporting column says no MIL for this entry even though its subject is the transmission module's MIL request. Consequently, the lamp's visible state should not substitute for reading the relevant module records and request status.
Preserve the underlying transmission fault before clearing evidence. The summary supports interpreting P0700 as a pointer to that fault information, but gives no universal repair, fluid service or controller replacement instruction. Those decisions require the actual transmission diagnosis and its applicable service procedure.
