Documented application

Documented monitors in gm-2025-03a, model year 2025. These are module/calibration examples; vehicle, engine and transmission applicability must be confirmed independently.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P0722 is the output-speed no-activity monitor in the cited TCM. The controller sees raw transmission output speed below 60 rpm while the applicable gear and torque conditions imply that usable activity should be present.

A stationary zero is not the full criterion

The source rationalizes the speed signal against attained gear, accelerator position and engine torque, with separate range-related logic. Merely seeing zero output speed in Park does not establish the failure defined by this monitor.

The documented persistence requirement differs by gear group: more than five seconds for the high-gear branch and more than 3.5 seconds for the low-gear branch. Applying one universal timeout would ignore that distinction. The source uses rapid internal updates, but the decision still depends on the qualified duration.

Sustained loss and intermittency can compete

The monitor description includes open-circuit, sensor-internal and controller-internal possibilities. It does not rank them or prove a specific failed component. After a sudden signal drop, P0722 may compete with the intermittent-output-speed diagnostic depending on whether the signal stays low or recovers.

Record input/output speed history, attained gear, torque context and companion codes. Verification should establish that output activity remains plausible through the relevant operating conditions and that the diagnostic passes. A single later nonzero reading does not exclude the earlier sustained loss. The table offers no basis for transmission teardown or sensor replacement without the appropriate circuit and signal diagnosis.
