Documented application

2025 GM 25OBDG07A Part2 diagnostic monitor documentation; the application-matrix filename mismatch is unresolved, so no model or engine applicability is inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P073F reports repeated inability to engage first gear in the cited transmission monitor. It evaluates synchronizer speed relationships and progress through engagement states rather than simply comparing the driver’s selection with the dashboard display.

More than one failure route

An attempt can fail when the initial synchronizer differential speed exceeds its calibrated maximum plus 250 rpm, when a state transition fails to occur before its timeout, or when differential speed exceeds the allowed limit for the current engagement state. The base limits and timeout come from attachment tables; 250 rpm is an addition to one limit, not the universal limit itself.

The first-gear engagement request and active state must be present. System pressure must exceed 4.5 bar, and error/bypass states are excluded. Confirmation requires at least four unsuccessful engagement attempts.

What to retain and verify

Record differential speed, the engagement state, and the attempt counter together. A speed-limit failure is different evidence from a timeout after speed has become acceptable. Neither proves a specific mechanical defect without further diagnosis.

Verification should demonstrate successful first-gear engagement through the correct sequence under the applicable professional procedure. The counter documents monitor behavior; it does not authorize forcing additional engagements or establish that a gearbox replacement is required.

Documentation and applicability

These details describe the monitor in GM’s 2025 25OBDG07A Part2 file. Its application-matrix filename does not match the download index, so model and engine applicability remain unresolved. Use the vehicle’s correct service information before applying these calibration details.
