Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0794 labels intermittent intermediate-shaft speed A circuitry in Ford's general monitor, with P0791_1F shown as the detailed representation. An averaged speed reading can obscure the interruption that made this failure classification relevant.
Preserve the diagnostic category
Ford assigns separate representations to noise, dropout and plausibility within the P0791 family. Its example noise and dropout counts belong to those dynamic strategies, not a published P0794 intermittency counter. Applying them indiscriminately would change the meaning of the reported code.
The source also distinguishes electrical checks that can operate without vehicle movement from comparisons requiring believable speed and gear information. A smooth moving trace later in the drive does not prove the earlier electrical condition never occurred.
Identify which intermediate sensor is present
The summary describes one intermediate sensor in the listed eight-speed design and two in the ten-speed design. The A designation therefore needs the exact transmission's component mapping before it becomes a physical location.
Useful evidence includes the complete suffix, status changes, command or gear state and the speed signal around the event. A coincident shift disturbance establishes timing, not the defective part. The summary does not provide an intermittency-specific universal pin test or recurrence threshold. Verification must follow the applicable electrical procedure while retaining the distinction from P0792's functional speed interpretations.
