P07F6: Ninth-gear ratio monitoring is a repeated operating-condition check

Learn why Ford P07F6 needs sustained eligible evidence and cannot identify a failed internal part by itself.

Documented application

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P07F6 identifies an incorrect ninth-gear ratio in Ford's general monitor list. Its presence calls for an examination of the commanded gear and measured speed relationship, rather than an assumption that a particular internal component has failed.

Reproduce the type of observation the controller evaluates

The published forward-gear example requires minimum torque, throttle and speeds, forward range established for more than eight seconds, and a period without shifting. Those requirements distinguish a valid held-gear observation from a speed difference during the transition into ninth.

Ford describes more than 30 rpm of error lasting over 2.5 seconds and six repeated events across key cycles, without detected solenoid faults. A verification record therefore needs timing and repeat history as well as the size of the mismatch.

Keep the transmission scope explicit

A nine-gear result cannot be interpreted using a gear-state table from an architecture with fewer listed forward ratios. The exact transmission and its failure suffix must remain attached to the diagnostic evidence, even when the generic code title appears self-explanatory.

Useful data includes commanded ninth gear, shift status, relevant shaft speeds and electrical diagnostic state. A plausible ratio after the event does not locate an intermittent signal issue or establish that a mechanical fault was repaired. The source does not give a universal ninth-gear clutch assignment or replacement instruction; the appropriate service procedure must resolve the cause.
