P080A: The controller lacks a valid learned clutch position

P080A checks the stored fully applied clutch-pedal position rather than directly declaring a sensor circuit fault.

Documented application

2009 General Motors diagnostic parameter file 09OBDG01 GMDAT Engine Diagnostics.pdf. Section-specific modules and calibrations; no per-code model or engine applicability established.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P080A means the controller has not established the required learned clutch-pedal position in this GM GMDAT implementation. The monitored item is the fully applied learn value. That differs from P0807 and P0808, which evaluate electrically low or high sensor signals.

A zero learned value has a specific meaning here

The source lists a fully applied learn position of zero and a manufacturer-enable counter condition as the failure criteria. It evaluates the learning status in a 250-millisecond loop. The zero is an internal learned-state value, not an instruction to adjust a pedal sensor to zero volts.

The table does not provide the actual learning sequence. It therefore cannot support a universal pedal-pumping routine, a required number of key cycles or a claim that disconnecting the battery will fix the problem.

Establish valid inputs before relearning

A learning procedure needs credible position information. If related circuit faults are present, resolving them is a different task from completing the prescribed calibration. The code alone does not establish why the learned value is missing.

Use the exact vehicle's service information to confirm prerequisites and perform any authorized learning. Verification should show a valid stored fully applied position and successful completion of the learning-status check. Merely erasing P080A, or observing a pedal reading change, does not prove that the controller has retained the required learned value.
