P0852: Park-neutral input remains asserted against transmission evidence
P0852 identifies disagreement when the engine controller senses Park or Neutral and the transmission message does not.

Documented application
2009 General Motors diagnostic parameter file 09OBDG01 DURAMAX Engine Diagnostics.pdf. Section-specific modules and calibrations; no per-code model or engine applicability established.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0852 is the opposite-direction park/neutral comparison in GM's Duramax summary. Here, the engine controller's sensed switch input indicates Park or Neutral while the transmission controller's GMLAN message disagrees. That distinction separates it from P0851's transmission-reported Park or Neutral condition.
The check is qualified by driving-state evidence
The published prerequisites include engine speed, vehicle speed, torque and pedal position, together with a bounded battery-voltage range. The monitor therefore uses more context than a stationary selector-position observation. The table requires battery voltage above 11 volts and below 18 volts during the comparison. These are diagnostic qualifications, not instructions to test an uncertain range circuit by driving under load.
The disagreement must persist for one second, with the relevant communication and opposite-direction faults absent. A companion communication failure can prevent a valid comparison rather than demonstrate that the position disagreement has disappeared.
Compare both controller views
Preserve the engine controller's direct status and the transmission controller's reported status separately. A dashboard indication alone may not expose both paths. The code does not identify which switch, wiring path or interpretation is responsible.
Use the vehicle-specific service procedure to assess the range information safely. Verification should establish consistent status recognition and a completed monitor in the prescribed conditions. Simply clearing P0852 or obtaining one correct selector reading leaves the original two-controller disagreement unresolved.
