P08A2: High duty on Y sensor 2 needs repeated eligible observations
Learn how GM P08A2 checks the second gear-lever Y channel and why a decoded selector position is not the same evidence.

Documented application
2025 GM 03B documented monitor only. Vehicle, engine and controller calibration applicability must be established separately; no model fitment is inferred from the file.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P08A2 concerns a high electrical signal from gear-lever Y position sensor 2. The cited GM monitor measures duty cycle and checks it against an upper range boundary. The percentage alone is not a declaration of how far the lever has travelled or which transmission range is mechanically engaged.
The controller looks beyond one peak
The documented failure condition is duty cycle above ninety-five percent. The controller must first have been awake for at least 0.05 second, then observe ten failing samples within twelve on a 25-millisecond task. Reporting is listed as two-trip.
This sequence matters when reviewing a startup spike: it may precede the eligible window or lack enough repeated evidence. A single later acceptable reading similarly cannot prove that the earlier qualifying samples remained in range.
Retain the raw Y signal for sensor 2
Another sensor or axis can provide context, but does not replace the channel named by P08A2. A decoded gear indication may appear reasonable while one underlying electrical input is outside its expected range. The table does not explain the complete decoding or redundancy strategy.
No universal voltage conversion, connector pin or lever-position mapping is supplied. The supported next question is where the repeated high-duty signal originates in the correct selector circuit. The summary cannot choose between the sensor, wiring and controller, or justify a mechanical transmission repair without further vehicle-specific evidence.
