P0A03: A very cold electronics-coolant indication can be an electrical high fault

Understand the GM P0A03 high-circuit monitor and why the document lists more than one timing implementation.

Documented application

GM 2010 10OBDG10 Hybrid Diagnostics, only the cited controller and monitor. These are historical calibration examples; individual vehicle, engine and hardware applicability is not established.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P0A03 is the high-circuit fault for electronics-coolant temperature in this GM document. One row identifies resistance above 200,000Ω and an indicated temperature at or below −60.5°C. The important interpretation is that an extremely cold displayed value can result from an electrical signal limit rather than actual coolant conditions.

Two rows should not become one invented timer

The PDF contains two P0A03 entries. One describes a temperature below −60.5°C with a 100ms decision; the other uses the resistance criterion and 30 failures out of 50 samples at 100ms intervals. The source does not establish which vehicle or calibration selects each row.

The resistance-based entry also requires valid intake-air circuitry, minimum intake-air temperature above −20°C and more than ten seconds of active propulsion. These prerequisites belong to that documented variant and should not be silently combined with the other timer.

Capture the variant before confirming a repair

Record the controller calibration, exact sensor parameter, startup state and companion intake-air faults. That information is needed to choose the applicable service procedure and monitor behavior.

The code does not by itself prove an open sensor or identify a connector. Avoid energized resistance measurements or improvised access around hybrid electronics. A trained technician must establish the circuit configuration and follow the specified isolation method before physical testing.
