Documented application
Kia PS554 concerns 2017–2018 Niro DE vehicles produced before August 21, 2017.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
The apparently unrelated A/C clue
Kia documents a Niro case in which P0A0F, engine failed to start, can appear with an EGR-control code or abnormal air-conditioning operation. The shared clue is damage to the A/C pressure-transducer harness where it can interfere with the engine-drive-belt idler pulley. The bulletin is therefore a wiring investigation, not an instruction to replace the engine or EGR valve from the code names.
Why the reference supply matters
The note specifically says the engine controller’s five-volt reference can become abnormal if that harness is damaged. This explains how a fault near an A/C component can affect more than the A/C display. It does not authorize applying external power to the reference circuit or assuming every no-start is caused by the same short.
Repair must prevent the contact from returning
Where the documented damage is found, Kia calls for repairing the harness and rerouting and securing it away from the pulley. Repairing a conductor while leaving the same interference point would not address the mechanical cause. Confirm the production cutoff and actual damage, then verify the affected components and starting behavior after the proper repair. If the harness is intact or the vehicle falls outside the application, continue the correct no-start diagnosis. The source supplies no universal harness pinout or test threshold and does not establish that every P0A0F indicates high-voltage battery failure.
