P0A2F: Motor-A overheating is evaluated only after temperature validity checks
Interpret the GM P0A2F thermal monitor using its initial threshold, reset boundary and sensor-plausibility prerequisites.

Documented application
GM 2010 10OBDG10 Hybrid Diagnostics, only the cited controller and monitor. These are historical calibration examples; individual vehicle, engine and hardware applicability is not established.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0A2F monitors sustained motor A overtemperature. Unlike the electrical-limit temperature codes on the same page, this strategy requires the motor-temperature signal to remain in range and the P0A2B plausibility fault to be inactive. The controller is attempting to evaluate heat using an accepted measurement.
The initial and reset boundaries differ
The table describes an initial motor temperature above 200°C, followed by failure to drop below the stated reset boundary around 135°C. Its decision uses 300 failing counts within 450 at approximately 10.4ms intervals.
This separation is a hysteresis strategy: after a high-temperature event, merely dropping slightly below the initial threshold does not represent full recovery under the monitor's logic. The numbers are historical calibration values for the documented controller, not normal operating targets for every hybrid motor.
Record temperature validity as well as temperature
Preserve the motor A thermal trace together with sensor-validity status and any P0A2B, P0A2C or P0A2D records. An invalid or implausible input changes the evidential value of an apparent hot reading.
The document does not identify a failed coolant pump, blocked passage or damaged motor, and it does not establish safe continued operation. A qualified hybrid technician must investigate the actual cooling and motor system using the matching procedure. Do not attempt to reproduce an overtemperature threshold deliberately or access energized motor equipment.
