P0B4F: sense channel E needs valid module communication first
The GM P0B4F open-sensing family excludes specified voltage-sensing-module communication faults before evaluating cell relationships.

Documented application
Document-level 2015 GM diagnostic table; per-code vehicle/engine/calibration applicability not established.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0B4F identifies battery voltage-sense circuit E in the cited GM BECM summary. It belongs to the open-sensing family, which examines cell-voltage relationships rather than directly measuring battery capacity.
Missing data and an open sense line are different findings
The shared enable logic excludes specified losses of communication with the voltage-sensing modules. That matters because a controller cannot reliably compare cell readings that it is not receiving correctly. A communication fault should remain part of the diagnostic record even when P0B4F is the most visible code.
This does not mean every E-channel fault is caused by the network. It means communication validity is a prerequisite for interpreting the family monitor as intended.
Capture adjacent values, not only the E label
The strategy distinguishes a general sensing-line difference, shared-power patterns and busbar-related conditions. Those cases apply across the listed channels; the E designation does not select one unique mechanism.
The printed positive-side busbar criterion is incomplete, and this article does not reconstruct it. The document also provides no physical mapping from E to a connector terminal or battery module.
A qualified technician should retain the E reading, adjacent readings, module-communication status and whether the diagnostic was enabled. Repair verification needs credible data and a completed sensing test under the proper conditions. Clearing communication codes and observing one plausible voltage does not by itself establish that the measurement path is sound.
