Documented application
FCA bulletin 08-259-26, July 2026: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee WL with 2.0 L ECX PHEV engine, covering North America, South America, Enlarged Europe, India and Asia Pacific as specified in the bulletin.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
Low charger output can appear with a software complaint
P0D21-00 means battery charger A output voltage too low in this Grand Cherokee bulletin. It is listed with IDCM internal-performance faults, possible 12-volt battery drain and inability to charge. The identified cause addressed here is integrated dual charging module software. A low-output description therefore does not alone establish that the traction battery or charger hardware must be replaced.
The revised service procedure includes high-voltage safeguards
The July 2026 revision specifies a qualified hybrid technician, a manufacturer contactor-control routine and confirmation that the high-voltage contactors are open before programming. The vehicle must not remain connected to an external high-voltage charger during the update. The document also gives a defined recovery branch for unsuccessful programming or an offline IDCM. These are workshop actions, not an owner instruction to disconnect batteries or manipulate orange high-voltage connections.
A successful flash is not the final charging test
After the update and required restoration steps, the technician connects an AC Level 2 supply and checks that charging actually occurs. If charging remains unavailable, the bulletin directs normal service diagnosis. It also requires checking the software status of battery, hybrid, engine and transmission controllers. Ask for the IDCM software result, the subsequent charging result and any faults that remain. This separates an update that completed electronically from a repair that restored the original customer function.
