P0D53: low high-voltage charger output current needs the correct channel
GM P0D53 addresses the high-voltage charger output-current sensing path, with a different boundary from the auxiliary output-current monitor.

Documented application
GM 2015 15OBDG01 Hybrid Diagnostics, only the cited EACCM monitor and calibration. Per-code vehicle and engine applicability has not been established; these historical thresholds are not universal service specifications.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0D53 evaluates the low side of the charger's high-voltage battery output-current measurement. Although several nearby codes also mention charger current, this one is not the AC input-current sensor or the nominal 14 V output-current sensor.
Use the actual monitored quantity
The cited calibration fails at a high-voltage DC current reading of 0.098 A or less for 400 milliseconds in a 500-millisecond window. The low-voltage secondary microcontroller must be awake. A reading above that boundary for 500 milliseconds is the stated pass branch.
The document calls the input a sensor reading and assigns a one-trip Type A classification. It does not state that every low charging-current observation, at every stage of a charge session, proves a defective current sensor. The applicable controller and operating context still matter.
Interpret companions without combining their limits
Retain the current report alongside voltage and reference-supply information. A separate output-voltage fault may be diagnostically relevant, but its threshold cannot replace this current criterion. Likewise, the low-voltage output's current boundary belongs to another measurement channel.
The source does not identify a failed battery, contactor or charger component from P0D53 alone. It gives no external current-measurement procedure or instruction to bypass a charging control. A qualified technician must establish whether the report reflects actual output behavior or a sensing problem. This explanation concerns monitor interpretation and supplies no method for accessing energized high-voltage conductors.
