P0D72: a high temperature-sensor circuit can report extreme cold
GM P0D72 is an internal compressor temperature-sensor circuit diagnostic; its reported-temperature criterion must not be mistaken for actual overheating.

Documented application
GM 2015 15OBDG01 Hybrid Diagnostics, only the cited EACCM monitor and calibration. Per-code vehicle and engine applicability has not been established; these historical thresholds are not universal service specifications.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0D72 is labelled an internal compressor-controller temperature-sensor circuit-high fault. In the cited GM row, the associated converted CPU temperature is extremely low. The electrical circuit label and the direction of the reported temperature are different concepts, so high in the code title does not mean a physically hot controller.
The ambient prerequisite is informative
The failure criterion is a CPU-temperature report below −40°C while outside-air temperature is above −7°C. System voltage must exceed 10.25 V and the hardware state must be Accessory or Run/Crank. GM requires 30 failures out of 60 samples at a 50-millisecond rate.
The warm-enough ambient condition helps distinguish the documented implausible cold report from an unspecified extreme-environment reading. It remains a sensor-circuit evaluation, not a general climate limit for using the vehicle.
Passing involves more than a new reading
The source lists a CPU report at or above −40°C for its pass comparison, with the stated operating conditions. It also says a controller reset is required after failure before passing is enabled. This is a recorded recovery prerequisite, not an instruction to disconnect a battery as a repair.
Preserve the original temperature, ambient and controller-state information first. The table does not prove which internal component failed or authorize opening the compressor electronics. Use the matching professional diagnostic procedure, including high-voltage and refrigerant precautions, to determine whether the sensor report and its circuit are trustworthy.
