P217A: Understanding injector group G’s supply-side electrical monitor

See why P217A requires the driver state and exact channel mapping to distinguish its two short-circuit paths.

Documented application

2025 GM 25OBDG07A Part 2 monitor tables only; model, engine and transmission applicability are not established by the unresolved application-matrix filename join.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P217A covers injector group G supply voltage in the generic list. The corresponding GM monitor is described as cylinder 7 injector “G,” with attention on the driver's high side. This article retains that source scope without claiming that the same letter defines identical wiring in every engine.

The controller looks for a state mismatch

The first documented failure pattern is voltage remaining low when the driver is off. The alternative is voltage remaining high when the driver is on. The row characterizes these as ground-short and supply-short behavior and uses two events for maturation.

Thus, a “supply circuit/open” scanner title cannot by itself tell whether the observed problem was an open connection, a ground path or an unwanted supply connection. The particular monitor actually contains the two short-circuit branches described above.

Why a single electrical snapshot is insufficient

A snapshot that omits commanded state loses the relationship that makes the voltage abnormal. Useful evidence preserves both the state and reported driver category, together with the additional enable or inhibition status referenced by the table.

The result does not quantify injector flow or diagnose rail-pressure control. Those are separate mechanisms. For an actual vehicle, establish which high-side path and injector channel correspond to the code before tracing wiring or considering components. The summary does not identify the failed part, a universal connector pin or a safe procedure for manually operating the injector.
