The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2252 identifies oxygen-sensor negative-current control circuit low. Mazda's SKYACTIV-D manual describes the relevant component as the air/fuel sensor and monitors its minus-current signal circuit.
This is an electrical limit, not a lean-mixture verdict
The documented signal voltage is below 0.479 V for five seconds, with battery voltage between 11 and 16 V and at least half a second after the stated engine-on ignition condition. The code does not establish exhaust oxygen concentration or a particular fuel-mixture error from that voltage alone.
The cause list includes the sensor connector, a signal-minus circuit short to ground, the PCM connection, the sensor and the PCM. Mazda checks the two connections and the grounded-signal possibility before the sensor inspection. The negative-current designation identifies the monitored circuit; it is not an instruction to apply power to the sensor.
Aftertreatment restrictions affect the next step
The PCM restricts torque and maximum speed and inhibits DENOx/DESOx, compulsory DPF regeneration and EGR control. Those unavailable functions may be protective consequences of losing valid air/fuel-sensor information.
Confirmation uses the specified key-on or running self-test and checks for a pending recurrence. Do not attempt to solve a disabled-regeneration complaint by initiating regeneration before this circuit concern is resolved. Use the exact sensor test procedure and hot-exhaust precautions, retaining the original electrical and companion DTC evidence.
