Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P226E is Ford’s bank 2 gasoline particulate-filter deteriorated or missing-substrate classification. The monitor assesses normalized backpressure, not a direct visual confirmation that filter material is absent. The code therefore does not identify a physical defect without supporting evidence.
Offset completion and warm flow create the test opportunity
The missing-substrate monitor requires completion of the differential-pressure offset check. It also uses an exhaust-flow window of 300–850 m³/h and a GPF temperature above 250°C for 30 seconds. A pressure observation at idle or before the filter is warm does not recreate that published operating window.
The malfunction comparison is normalized backpressure below 1.0 for five seconds. Because this is a ratio against the monitor’s missing-brick threshold, it must not be converted into a universal pressure value in hPa or psi.
Keep bank2 and functional evidence distinct
Ford identifies bank 2 Mode $06 monitor $B3, test $80 for this result. The corresponding bank 1 monitor is different, so the bank-specific result and its reported limit should be retained.
A diagnostic record should preserve eligible flow, warm-up state, offset-check status and the functional result. The source does not authorize filter removal, determine a repair cost or prove that a pressure sensor is accurate merely because it reports a value. The applicable vehicle procedure must establish the cause of the low normalized-backpressure assessment.
