P2380: EGR sensor internal status must be separated from lost communication
Understand Ford P2380’s sensor-reporting path and why EGR flow checks depend on trustworthy pressure evidence.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2380 is Ford’s EGR sensor D circuit classification in the documented EGR pressure-sensing monitor. The source pairs it with P2380_01 and lists U0669 separately for sensor communication. An internal malfunction indication and inability to communicate are distinct evidence, even if either undermines an EGR flow calculation.
The electrical check protects a later flow assessment
The sensor check runs continuously during EGR monitoring and lists five seconds to register a malfunction. The malfunction descriptions distinguish a sensor that indicates an internal fault from communication that is lost, corrupted or otherwise unavailable.
Ford’s EGR flow-monitor sequence requires the EGR pressure diagnostics, including P2380-related checks, to pass. A flow result obtained without trustworthy pressure information therefore cannot automatically be interpreted as though all its prerequisites were satisfied.
Retain sensor health and communication separately
Record the complete identifier, internal sensor status, communication availability and any accompanying flow codes. A plausible pressure value at another time does not reconstruct an earlier internal fault report, and a response to communication does not prove the sensor’s internal status was healthy.
The source does not identify a failed EGR valve or an obstructed passage from P2380 alone. It also does not provide a universal connector test for the digital sensor. The appropriate procedure must establish the sensor’s reporting path before a mechanical EGR repair is selected.
