P2422: Sportage vent restriction after the valve tests correctly

Kia’s P2422 note applies when the canister closed valve and its circuit have already been checked and found within specification.

Documented application

Kia PS532 revision 1 concerns the Sportage QL application labelled 2017MY onward in the historical document; confirm current model-specific applicability.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

The prerequisite is important

Kia’s P2422 note applies when the canister closed valve and its circuit have already been checked and found within specification. Under that condition, the next question is whether the EVAP ventilation path is restricted. A stuck-closed indication therefore does not always mean the valve itself has mechanically failed.

Look beyond the named component

The manufacturer describes foreign material, including a spider nest, anywhere along the route from the filler-neck area to the main charcoal canister. It identifies the filler-neck area as a common location in this case. A restriction upstream can make a good valve appear ineffective, which explains why replacing the valve without examining the ventilation path may leave the complaint unchanged.

Removal method and verification

The note specifically says compressed air has been ineffective for the documented obstruction. The proper service approach must actually remove the material and confirm the path is clear, using the applicable EVAP service precautions. It is not a direction to blow pressure into the fuel tank or dismantle fuel-system parts casually. If no obstruction is found, or the valve/circuit did not pass its tests, this branch has not been established. Retain the initial electrical results, the location and nature of any restriction, and the post-repair fault behavior. The source does not provide a universal EVAP test pressure or authorize a canister replacement solely from P2422.
