Documented application
Ford 2015 model-year diesel OBD system operation summary, revision December 22, 2014; the cited monitor only, without blanket model or engine applicability.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P247A identifies exhaust-temperature sensor 3 outside the high side of its engineering range in Ford's 2015 diesel summary. The listed typical limit is 1,150°C. That number is a diagnostic range boundary, not an allowable exhaust operating target.
Why the electrical codes are different
Sensor 3's circuit-low and circuit-high codes are P242C and P242D. P247A evaluates the temperature represented by the signal. Ford notes that the transfer function cannot support a separate low-side engineering threshold, which makes this particular out-of-range check high-side only.
The monitor is continuous, with key-on and a 9–16.25 volt battery window. Its typical evaluation takes two seconds. It should not be confused with a model-comparison check that waits for an extended soak and warm running conditions.
Interpret before replacing
Retain sensor 3's reading alongside the other exhaust-temperature and circuit information. The monitor does not establish whether an extreme reading reflects actual system heat or a measurement problem. Use the vehicle-specific exhaust layout and diagnostic procedure to investigate that distinction. The source does not identify a failed DPF or SCR assembly from P247A alone, and physical work must account for hot exhaust surfaces.

The documented monitor explains the fault decision; vehicle-specific service information is still needed for connector identification and a complete repair procedure.
