P24D0: Particulate-sensor supply voltage is judged by voltage drop under heater demand

Ford diesel P24D0 uses battery-dependent supply-drop limits while the particulate sensor heater has sufficient duty.

Documented application

Ford 2023–2024 diesel OBD summary, revised August 25, 2023; these are documented monitor examples, not confirmed fitment or universal thresholds for every vehicle carrying this generic code.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P24D0 identifies particulate-matter sensor supply voltage low. Ford’s diesel monitor evaluates voltage drop relative to battery conditions, with the heater providing a meaningful operating load. It is not defined by one fixed low-voltage number for all battery states.

The threshold changes with available voltage

The documented entry window is 11–16 V battery voltage, with sensor-heater duty cycle at least 35%. Typical detection duration is two seconds. Ford lists different allowable drops in higher, intermediate, and lower battery-voltage bands: 1.1 V, 2.1 V, and 3 V respectively.

The table’s battery comparisons should be read as the applicable calibrated bands, not stacked as simultaneous independent tests. Exact boundary handling belongs to the vehicle implementation; the summary is not a complete software decision tree.

Why an unloaded check can miss the relevant evidence

A satisfactory supply reading while heater demand is low does not reproduce this monitor’s stated loading condition. Useful verification relates supply behavior to battery voltage and heater activity, using the actual vehicle’s diagnostic method.

The page separately identifies a missing particulate-sensor CAN message under U02A3. A supply-drop fault and communication loss may provide related evidence, but neither should be silently substituted for the other. P24D0 does not locate resistance in a specific connector or prove the sensor electronics failed. The summary supplies load-dependent detection logic, leaving circuit isolation and safe measurement points to the appropriate service information.

Source and applicability

This explanation follows Ford’s 2023–2024 diesel OBD summary. Match the vehicle’s engine and calibration before applying these monitor values; a generic code alone does not establish fitment. Ford PDF, page 28.
