The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P252F identifies excessive engine oil level. Mazda's SKYACTIV-D monitor uses oil-level information averaged under controlled operating conditions rather than treating every momentary level change as a fault.
What repeated measurements establish
The functional explanation describes three consecutive average values at least 15 mm above the dipstick F mark. The operating conditions include a defined engine-speed and oil-temperature range and low vehicle acceleration. Communication and sensor faults must be absent. This limits the influence of oil movement during maneuvers.
Possible causes include an actually high level, fuel dilution associated with frequent automatic DPF regeneration, sensor passage blockage, a sensor or communication fault, and omission of the engine-oil data reset after replacement. Service history is therefore relevant alongside the dipstick reading.
Compare the physical level with the signal
Mazda checks the actual level and uses ENG_OIL_LVL data before the sensor passage inspection. Its high-level branch calls for oil replacement and the applicable data reset. The source uses the X mark as a physical service decision point; the correct dipstick and vehicle procedure must be used.
The wrench indicator is a listed consequence. No separate fail-safe is stated, which does not make excessive or diluted oil harmless. Professional diagnosis should determine why the level rose and whether dilution is involved, rather than only resetting the warning or assuming the oil-level sensor has failed.
