The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P253F identifies engine oil deterioration. Mazda's SKYACTIV-D page includes excessive estimated dilution and a fall in oil pressure relative to the baseline established at oil replacement.
It is not just a mileage counter
One documented condition is a pressure decrease of at least 110 kPa compared with the oil-replacement baseline, evaluated at 1,475–1,525 rpm and oil temperature of 87–88 °C. The dilution criterion varies with ambient temperature and is not numerically published on this page.
The cause list includes frequent automatic DPF regeneration causing fuel dilution, reduced oil viscosity, an incorrect oil-pressure or temperature signal, and a missed oil-data reset. The narrow pressure-test conditions explain why an unrelated cold-start pressure measurement cannot directly confirm or reject this monitor.
Check the baseline and its inputs
Mazda's procedure considers related DTCs and inspects the pressure and temperature sensors before the oil-replacement branch. Replacement is followed by the prescribed engine-oil data reset. A reset without investigating actual oil condition could remove useful history while leaving the cause unresolved.
The page lists no dedicated fail-safe. That should not be taken as permission to ignore suspect lubrication. Confirmation uses the captured conditions under safe professional data collection. Retain the replacement history, reset status and pressure/temperature evidence so the repair addresses either true oil deterioration or the measurement/baseline problem that produced the diagnosis.
