P2610: An unreliable off timer can distort a cold-soak diagnosis
Understand Ford P2610 calculation and comparison subtypes and why timer evidence matters to temperature-monitor eligibility.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2610 concerns the ECM/PCM’s estimate of how long the engine has been off. Ford distinguishes P2610_61 for a signal-calculation failure from P2610_62 for a signal-comparison failure. Neither label is simply a declaration that a temperature sensor reads incorrectly.
The timer is checked through more than one inconsistency
The source lists an inferred soak paired with an off time below 30 seconds, timer accuracy differing by more than 15 seconds, and an off-time CAN message missing at startup. These are distinct ways for elapsed-time information to become unreliable.
Monitoring occurs within entry conditions, with registration immediately at startup or after five minutes. A startup communication problem and an accumulated accuracy mismatch therefore need not appear at the same instant.
Why this matters beyond the clock itself
Ford’s ambient-temperature plausibility monitor lists P2610-related timer health among its prerequisites and uses a long engine-off soak condition. If the timer information is suspect, a temperature comparison cannot automatically be interpreted as though a valid soak had been established.
Preserve the full subtype, reported elapsed time, startup message availability and the operating sequence that preceded the fault. The summary does not identify a failed clock component or recommend PCM replacement. Vehicle-specific verification must establish which timer input or comparison failed before blaming a temperature sensor or drawing conclusions from an assumed overnight cool-down.
