P261C: A low pump B control circuit is not a measured flow shortage

Learn what Ford’s smart-driver report establishes for P261C and why pump function and supply eligibility matter.

Documented application

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P261C is the low control-circuit fault for coolant pump B in the cited Ford monitor. It is represented as P261A_11, and the malfunction description says the smart driver reports an output-circuit fault. The controller is evaluating an electrical path, not directly measuring whether the component-cooling loop carries enough coolant.

Use the documented B-pump identity

Ford identifies B as the high-temperature-loop auxiliary pump for component cooling number 1. That definition should be checked against the vehicle’s cooling layout before choosing a connector or interpreting a component label.

The circuit check runs continuously, specifies five seconds of monitoring and uses a battery-voltage minimum of 11 V. These facts distinguish eligibility from the fault itself: battery voltage is an entry condition, while the low output classification comes from the driver report.

Keep the unmeasured quantities separate

The table gives no numerical low-control threshold or connector test point for P261C. It therefore does not justify using another pump’s voltage specification or interpreting the code as a direct short-to-ground measurement at an assumed pin.

Preserve the complete suffix, pump command, supply condition and any separate performance or supply-voltage codes. A later successful pump operation does not recreate the event that produced the driver report. Identifying whether the fault lies in the external control path, connected load or electronics requires the applicable circuit procedure, rather than an automatic coolant-pump replacement.
