P2827: what solenoid J circuit-high actually identifies

P2827 identifies a voltage-side fault in the transmission circuit assigned to pressure control solenoid J.

Documented application

Documented 2025 GM gm-2025-04b monitor only; vehicle, engine and controller applicability must be established separately.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

The cited 25OBDG04B monitor uses P2827 when the electrical circuit assigned to solenoid J behaves like a short to a voltage source. “High” describes the circuit diagnosis; the monitor is not measuring excessive clutch pressure.

Valve identity matters

This row associates the code with the nine-speed clutch-valve control circuit, ten-speed default-disable circuit or eight-speed boost-valve circuit. Those functions are different enough that a generic solenoid-letter diagram is inadequate. Establish the transmission/controller combination before choosing connector information or interpreting a command trace.

The decision requires the mapped high-side driver to be on and the diagnostic enabled in calibration. It accumulates failing observations for more than 0.30 seconds over a sample longer than 0.50 seconds. Qualified battery voltage is above 9 and below 32 volts. The table's controller-specific voltage classification should not be converted into a universal pin voltage for all these units.

Interpretation and confirmation

Compare the relevant valve command with the circuit feedback during the recorded operating state. An elevated signal in a state where the controller expects a different electrical response is useful evidence; an isolated voltage reading without driver context is not. The source does not identify which physical wire, load or internal driver caused the result.

P2827 also appears in other documented transmission architectures, so the generic description alone cannot establish applicability. For this table, verification means the correct J circuit passes its electrical monitor under valid supply and driver conditions. Hydraulic function may require separate checks if a shift complaint remains.
