P2850: Rod-four unrequested movement can be a persistent control burden

P2850 evaluates rod-four drift and records excessive correction activity, so a normal final position may not show the original problem.

Documented application

2025 GM 25OBDG07A Part 2 documented monitor only; its application-matrix filename join is unresolved. No model, engine or universal calibration applicability is inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P2850 maps to rod-four drift in this GM transmission. The controller compares position with the expected band for the logical gear while speed information verifies engagement. It requires no rod-force command and excludes electrical or consistency faults on the position sensor.

Two forms of evidence can remain hidden by a snapshot

A direct position excursion must satisfy the source’s 500 ms confirmation interval. Other routes count at least ten correction activations or more than five seconds of active correction. These corrections begin at narrower limits than the direct drift test, so the final position may look normal after the controller intervenes.

Even-clutch and output-speed information must be available, and active shifting or position-learning routines are excluded. The continuation page contains these conditions and the correction criteria.

Verify the correction as well as the position

Retain rod-four correction count and duration with position, logical gear and speed evidence. Clearing the code and checking only a stationary position does not address the repeated-intervention routes. Exact learned limits depend on this calibration’s service data. The code records unexpected movement behavior, but the table does not identify a particular mechanical wear point or hydraulic component as the proven repair.

Document scope and source

2025 GM 25OBDG07A Part 2 documented monitor only; its application-matrix filename join is unresolved. No model, engine or universal calibration applicability is inferred. These figures explain the cited controller logic, not a vehicle-specific repair instruction. Match the vehicle’s service information before applying them.
