P2B53: An intake profile pin extends but does not return within the engine cycle

Learn how P2B53 uses the order of Hall-feedback states to detect a pin that remains extended.

Documented application

2025 GM 25OBDG03B documented monitor only. Vehicle, engine and calibration applicability must be confirmed from the matching service information; no model fitment is inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P2B53 evaluates whether the intake profile-actuator pin returns after an extension event. GM watches Hall-sensor feedback for extending or extended states and then expects a retracted state before the engine cycle ends. This is a sequence-based check, not simply a static comparison with one preferred position.

The prior extension is part of the finding

A retraction failure is recognized after feedback has indicated extension. If the required return state is not obtained by the end of the cycle, the monitor reports the pin-stuck-out behavior. Looking only at a later parked reading can therefore omit the event sequence that produced the result.

The row prints three internal feedback boundaries, but does not identify them as physical travel or universal sensor voltage. The useful interpretation is the transition between recognized states. Applying those numbers directly to an unknown connector would go beyond the source.

Check the qualified running event

The engine must be running, supply above 11 V and the diagnostic enabled. The listed sample decision is one failure report within five samples, with one-trip reporting separately stated. These criteria differ from simply counting failed start attempts.

Preserve the command, Hall-state sequence and engine-cycle timing. The source names intake actuator 2 and does not supply its physical placement. It establishes a missing return indication, but does not prove whether the pin is mechanically stuck or the feedback is incorrect. Further investigation needs the matching vehicle procedure.
