P2BAF: Compass diesel inducement warning linked to a BCM software version

Inducement is the consequence, not a component diagnosis

P2BAF-00 is driver inducement active in this Compass bulletin. It can accompany a DEF-system message, unavailable stop/start or four-wheel drive, and supply-voltage faults P0563-00 and P21CC-00. The manufacturer case concerns the body-control-module version, so the inducement message alone does not justify replacing a DEF tank, dosing injector or exhaust catalyst. The complete code combination and vehicle specification are essential.

The software-version check has a stop branch

The bulletin first checks whether the BCM carries version 68409791AG. If that specified level is already present, the action ends at inspection. If it is absent on a qualifying vehicle, the historical remedy is a replacement BCM supplied with the required programming. That is different from a routine instruction to reflash the existing module. A current workshop should confirm the applicable replacement and any later supersession rather than treating this 2019 identifier as a universal current part recommendation.

Replacement requires vehicle configuration

The new module in this action must undergo the prescribed electronic steering-lock key transfer and proxy alignment using the manufacturer diagnostic system. The bulletin says not to reprogram the supplied replacement BCM. These security and configuration operations belong to an authorized, equipped repair process. Ask for the initial version, eligibility finding and completed configuration record. A DEF or restart-related warning should be resolved promptly, and faults remaining after the correct BCM procedure require their own emissions or electrical diagnosis.
