Documented application

Ford SSM 51783, July 2023: some 2021–2023 Ford/Lincoln vehicles, Level 1/2 charging interruption, MIL and P2C94 in SOBDM. Models are not individually enumerated; historical update timing and condition-specific advice are not current availability or general driving assurances.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

The module and charging mode identify this case

Ford SSM 51783 describes some 2021–2023 Ford and Lincoln vehicles whose high-voltage battery stops charging on Level 1 or Level 2 equipment. The malfunction indicator lamp illuminates and P2C94 is stored in the secondary on-board diagnostic control module A, or SOBDM. The message does not enumerate individual models, so it should not be treated as proof that every vehicle in those years is affected.

This context changes how the generic contactor-supply-low title should be interpreted. The manufacturer documented an operating concern for which replacing the SOBDM would not resolve the condition. The code alone therefore does not support ordering a charger module or a battery contactor.

What the historical message actually recommended

The July 2023 message said charging capability could be restored by disconnecting the external charger handle from the vehicle port and reconnecting it. It also stated that no further diagnosis or service was required for that specific condition at that time while engineering developed a solution expected in August 2023.

That expected date is a historical plan, not evidence that a particular update is available or installed today. A service visit should establish the vehicle’s software and campaign history against current Ford information. Repeated interruptions outside the documented circumstances need their own diagnosis.

For useful evidence, record whether the failure occurs on AC Level 1 or Level 2, the warning lamp behavior and the module storing P2C94. Do not generalize the bulletin’s condition-specific durability and driving statements to other contactor faults, additional warnings or damaged charging equipment.
