Acura MDX and TLX P0430: check software before condemning the catalyst

P0430 can reflect how the controller interprets sensor data. Confirm that this documented software case fits before approving a converter.

Displays covered: P0430 Reviewed

Check the vehicle first.

MDX
2014–2017, excluding Sport Hybrid; 2017 VIN limits apply.
TLX
2015–2018 V6 only; 2018 VIN limits apply. Compare the complete VIN with 17-034 version 4.

What the bulletin actually changes

Acura identifies a possible PCM interpretation error and prescribes a PGM-FI update plus 9-speed automatic software confirmation where fitted. It does not prescribe catalyst replacement for this condition.

Why an old invoice may describe a different update

The superseded 15-053 version 1 covered 2014–2015 MDX and listed a PGM-FI-only correction. Its specified program IDs are historical evidence of that earlier job, not a substitute for the later reviewed 17-034 check. Keep the invoice, but ask the technician to compare the installed program with the applicable later instructions.

Before approving the converter

Request the eligibility result, installed program number and evidence supporting any hardware diagnosis. An old update invoice alone neither proves the catalyst is healthy nor establishes its failure. Programming belongs with a suitably equipped workshop.
