BMW / Vehicle-specific diagnosis

BMW X6 N63 29E0 and misfire faults: one injector or an entire bank?

A multi-injector estimate should explain both the failed cylinder and the hardware compatibility rule.

Keep the native fault numbers intact

BMW’s injector document associates long cranking, rough running, black exhaust smoke and fuel-fouled plugs with possible injector faults. Codes 29E0/29E1 concern mixture control; 2B16–2B1D identify cylinder misfires. It still requires ISTA confirmation of leaking or defective injectors.

Do not translate these numbers into guessed generic P-codes. Preserve the original scan report so a workshop can match the correct test plan.

The misfire test plan comes first

SI B13 07 12 starts with the misfire test plan, including when the complaint is reproducible without a stored misfire code. It says to carry out that plan’s directed repair before other proposed fuel-pressure or mixture test plans. A rough-running complaint alone is not its authorization to replace every injector.

The index can change the quantity

Confirmed fault and installed hardwareHistorical replacement rule
Affected bank contains injectors below index 11Follow the bank-set replacement instruction.
Affected bank already has index 11 or higherReplace the failed injector rather than automatically renewing the bank.
Proposed mix of index 10-or-lower with index 11-or-higherThese groups must not be mixed within the same bank.

Diagnosis and payment eligibility are separate decisions

SI B01 02 19 is a VIN-limited US warranty-extension notice, not a recall. Historical time/mileage terms cannot confirm today’s coverage; request the vehicle-record and in-service-date check separately from diagnosis.

What should be on the estimate?

Ask the workshop to identify the failed cylinder, the test result supporting that finding, and the indexes already installed on its bank. If more than one injector is proposed, the estimate should explain whether that quantity follows a compatibility rule or multiple confirmed failures.

Request separate identification of consequential items and the verification planned after repair. These questions help compare two estimates that otherwise show different quantities with no explanation. Fuel-system opening and injector installation require professional equipment and current repair instructions.
