Honda Accord V6 P0301–P0304: software, fouled plugs or piston rings?
A misfire code alone does not select an engine rebuild.
Check the vehicle first.

Read the plug finding before the parts list
| Confirmed findings | Documented direction |
|---|---|
| No listed code, or affected plug not fouled | Normal troubleshooting; this bulletin does not apply. |
| Fouled affected plug; older software | Update PCM and replace plugs 1–4. |
| Fouled affected plug; current software; P0301/P0302/P0303 | Piston/ring work on cylinders 1–3; plugs 1–4. |
| Fouled affected plug; current software; P0304 also or alone | Piston/ring work on cylinders 1–4; plugs 1–4. |
2012 does not use the outdated-software shortcut
The bulletin says all 2012 vehicles already had its current software. Do not assume an update-only branch applies to every year.
A warning that goes away still deserves inspection
The 2012 Accord Sedan owner's manual says to have a recurring malfunction lamp checked even if it subsequently goes out, and warns that continued operation can damage the engine or emissions controls. It also distinguishes readiness status: disconnecting or losing the battery can erase readiness codes, affecting an emissions test. A lamp reset is not a diagnostic finding.
Before authorizing internal engine work
Request affected-plug photos and the software ID. Check present coverage separately. Internal engine work needs a qualified workshop.
