Kia P0016: Soul reluctor alignment or Forte adaptive reset?
The first question is whether the timing code appeared after engine replacement. A reset prescribed for another Kia is not evidence for the same repair here.

Soul: compare the scans before and after replacement
PS731 concerns these codes appearing only after engine replacement. A mispositioned camshaft pulse wheel can send an incorrect signal. Inspect its orientation at top dead center; do not infer a failed sensor or chain.
Two wheel types need different reference points
Use the illustrated factory procedure; this is not an owner repositioning instruction.

Forte: a separate, limited adaptive-value procedure
ENG170 revision 1 addresses P0016 from a stuck intake CVVT assembly on its listed Forte population. Kia prescribes an ECU adaptive-value reset with KDS, then at least two drive cycles to confirm operation. Other stored codes may need separate shop-manual diagnosis. Its production range is broader than the original 2017 bulletin; the revision matters.
The factory reset runs with ignition on and engine off, with communication and power maintained. This is a controlled workshop routine, not an invitation to disconnect the battery. The Forte remedy cannot be imported into the Soul reluctor case merely because both scanners display P0016.
What should the repairer show you?
If the proposed repair cannot be connected to either documented condition, ask the repairer to identify the vehicle-specific diagnostic path being used. Neither bulletin establishes a universal Kia P0016 repair.
- For a Soul return visit: the original scan, replacement-engine identification and the alignment finding—not just another parts estimate.
- For an eligible Forte: the applicable revision, additional-code assessment and the post-reset operating result.
