Toyota Camry and Avalon V6 P0300: when calibration is the right branch
The recorded driving conditions and installed calibration decide whether this software case fits.

Match the event before choosing a repair
Toyota describes misfires around 5,000–6,500 rpm, 100% or greater engine load and full accelerator input. Have the technician compare the recorded event with that pattern; do not reproduce it yourself.
A software update has an entry and an exit condition
| Finding | Direction |
|---|---|
| Listed misfire/rough-idle display absent | This bulletin does not apply; use normal diagnosis. |
| Matching case; applicable calibration not installed | Evaluate the documented ECM update. |
| Applicable calibration already installed | Return to normal diagnosis; repeating this update is not the prescribed fix. |
Why a Camry needs a transmission identity check
The companion bulletin explains that some 2018 Camrys need different ECM software for different transaxle hardware. A mismatch can produce harsh shifts or shift flare. Selecting a file from the model year alone is therefore insufficient.
For a replacement transaxle, Toyota uses its part number to distinguish the production change. When checking the installed unit without replacing it, the technician uses the assembly serial number and production-change table. The result governs the matching ECM hardware and calibration. This identification step is not a recommendation to replace the transmission.
What a useful repair record should show
These are editorial questions for checking the reasoning behind an estimate. A proposal for coils, plugs or transmission replacement should explain its own measured evidence; this particular software case does not establish that those parts have failed.
- Full scan display, event conditions and original calibration ID.
- For Camry, the transaxle identification used to select the matching software.
- The resulting calibration ID and confirmation of operation after service.
