P051B: Crankcase-pressure rationality can fail without an electrical extreme
Interpret Ford P051B offset and pressure plausibility checks while keeping analog and SENT implementations separate.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the documented monitor variants. No individual model, engine or calibration fitment inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P051B is Ford's crankcase-pressure sensor A range/performance result. The cited PCV strategy distinguishes it from analog low/high circuit faults and from digital SENT fault patterns. A signal can remain inside its electrical range yet still be implausible.
Offset and operating context matter
The source lists an offset criterion and pressure plausibility conditions at low airflow. Its offset check excludes cranking, which is important because a reading captured during cranking is not the same diagnostic state. Preserve the measured pressure, airflow and engine state together rather than judging the value alone.
The page also describes sensor-temperature rationality conditions, including a long engine-off period and a defined running window. These are additional implementation details, not proof that every P051B case is an electrical short or a physically disconnected hose.
Keep dependent PCV tests separate
Ford's following hose-disconnect monitor requires the pressure sensor checks to be healthy. A range/performance fault can therefore affect the credibility or completion of the ventilation-system test. Resolving the sensor evidence comes before treating a later hose result as conclusive.
Use the exact sensor architecture and calibration to identify which rationality branch failed. The summary does not provide a universal crankcase-pressure specification for all loads, nor a component replacement instruction. Verification should show plausible sensing in the relevant test state and successful operation of any dependent PCV monitor, rather than only a momentarily in-range voltage.
Source and applicability
This explanation covers the cited Ford monitor variants, not every vehicle displaying this code. Match the engine, sensor architecture and calibration before applying numerical limits.
