The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P053B generally identifies PCV heater A control circuit low. Mazda's SKYACTIV-D procedure calls the system the blow-by heater and compares heater supply voltage with the commanded relay state.
The relay must be on for this check
The monitor requires battery voltage at least 8 V, at least half a second after ignition on, and the heater relay commanded on. The monitored supply then remains below specification for five seconds. The page does not publish a numerical heater-voltage threshold.
Mazda lists the relay, F10 15 A fuse, relay supply, heater power path and monitor circuit. A relay-control wire shorted to power is also included. That combination shows why the code should not be reduced to a failed heating element: the PCM may be unable to turn on or observe the supply correctly.
Check delivery and monitoring separately
The factory flow assesses the relay and fuse before the various power, control and monitor paths, then the heater itself. A good fuse does not establish that the relay closes, and a powered heater circuit does not establish that its monitor signal reaches the PCM correctly.
No dedicated fail-safe is listed. Repair verification uses the specified key-on or running self-test and a pending-code check. Keep the commanded-on state with the voltage evidence, because a low heater voltage when the relay is intentionally off is a different observation.
