Documented application
2025 GM 25OBDG04B diagnostic parameter tables; the cited monitor only. Vehicle, engine and calibration applicability must be confirmed separately.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0539 checks for erratic evaporator air-temperature feedback in the documented BCM strategy. It evaluates the absolute change between consecutive samples and uses a rate threshold above 4°C per second.
A changing signal differs from a fixed high or low input
The source lists intermittent ground shorts, power shorts, open circuits and other erratic behavior as possible electrical patterns. It does not choose among them. Because the assessment concerns excessive change, a signal can look reasonable again by the time a slow display is inspected.
The failure condition must occupy eight seconds within a twenty-second window. Monitoring requires the controller awake for more than 25 seconds, valid 12 V system status and no active P0537 or P0538. A sustained high or low fault can therefore inhibit this separate erratic-signal test.
What improves the diagnosis
Retain a time sequence of the temperature signal and check whether a fixed-range fault is also active. Those observations distinguish a genuinely eligible erratic assessment from a test that could not run.
Verification should demonstrate stable, plausible feedback over the appropriate enabled window, using the correct vehicle procedure. The table lists Type B reporting over two trips. It does not establish a refrigerant fault, locate a wiring defect or prescribe sensor replacement; its evidence concerns the consistency of the electrical temperature input.
