P0551: implausible power-steering pressure switch feedback
Ross-Tech's P0551 entry concerns implausible F88 pressure-switch feedback and distinguishes the switch from its wiring and connections.

P0551 is an implausible signal from the power-steering pressure switch in Ross-Tech's VAG reference. The switch is designated F88. The page identifies two broad possibilities: a fault in the wiring or connections, or a faulty switch. It does not identify a steering pump as the required replacement.
Do not treat feedback as a pressure measurement
The important finding is that the controller considers the switch signal implausible. As an editorial diagnostic interpretation, that is different from having measured hydraulic pressure and demonstrated that it is too high or too low. A scan label alone cannot supply a pressure value that the source never provides.
The reference calls for checking the wiring and connections as well as F88. The distinction matters because replacing the switch would not resolve an electrical defect elsewhere in that path. Conversely, a sound-looking connector is not evidence that the switch changes state correctly.
Use the correct steering-system procedure
The source contains no universal switching threshold, hydraulic test pressure or connector pinout. Those checks require the installed system's repair information and suitable professional equipment. This article describes the supported feedback fault without offering steering disassembly instructions. Ross-Tech is an independent diagnostic-tool publisher, and its component designation should only be used when the vehicle's complete fault description matches.
